Websults LLC Completes Educational Needs Index 2.0 Web Site

New site includes Public Use Microdata Area data

November 12, 2007 - (Nashville, TN) - Websults® announces the completion of a website for Educational Needs Index 2.0, the 2nd iteration of the Educational Needs Index (ENI) study. ENI is a study of educational, economic, and population pressures that influence educational policy and planning. ENI 2.0 is the 2nd iteration of the study and uses Public Use Microdata Areas (PUMAs) as opposed to county boundaries for analysis and comparison. The new ENI website is located at www.educationalneedsindex.com.

ENI 2.0

“Until recently, much of the data for geographic areas smaller than states were only available every ten years from the decennial census. Beginning in 2005, the Census Bureau began to provide a variety of annual data at the sub-state level for areas called Public Use Microdata Areas, or PUMAs.” Principal Investigator Patrick Kelly said. “PUMAs provide a better delineation of urban areas – counties with sizable populations and the dramatic geographic disparities within them.”

ENI 2.0 required a new web site to reflect the new version of the index and the inclusion of the PUMA data. Nashville-based web site strategy consulting firm Websults built a dynamic web site that includes available PUMA data for all 50 states, as well as an archive of the first version of ENI. Site users can select a state to view available data, or perform a multiple-state data comparison.

“The variables that make up the ENI change from year-to-year and we wanted to provide the most current picture of the education, economic, and population challenges facing regions throughout the U.S.,” Kelly said. “Websults provides a unique balance of excellent visual design and the technical expertise needed to build a data intensive website that appeals to both researchers and policymakers.”

“At Websults, we strive to provide our clients, especially those in education, with an up-to-date website to fit their needs,” Websults Principal Jonathan Weindruch said. “We are proud to build the ENI 2.0 site with the most current demographic data available in the education field today.”
